OPPO prepares to launch Reno8, the next-gen premium smartphone range, in South Africa




As OPPO continues to gain ground globally, the technology developer has its sights firmly set on increasing its presence in South Africa. OPPO is expanding its product portfolio with the latest generation of  Reno’s, the Reno8 and Reno8 Pro.

While OPPO is synonymous with its SuperVOOC charging and high-end camera quality, the business has been actively working towards its first self-developed imaging neural processing unit (NPU), MariSilicon X. This chip provides the new Reno8 Pro with a cutting-edge portrait video experience thanks to its unmatched, specialized image processing capacity.

The dedicated chip acts as a dedicated brain for the camera, which will enable better quality images using AI to enhance the the tone and textures of pictures taken, while building on fundamental device software that allow for continued upgrades. With this, the Portrait Expert experience allows for studio-quality images every time no matter the light, sound and movement of the surroundings.

Premium access built for local budgets

Due to the diversification of premium smartphone options since 2012 and people’s increased daily screen time, having access to a smart device has become essential. According to GFK, OPPO, which has been present in the South African market for two years, acquired a double-digit market share  in the postpaid market. This illustrates the expansion of a brand in the already crowded technological market. When OPPO decided to move here, it recognized a chance to take advantage of the special ecology of a nation that is rapidly developing in order to strengthen its technological infrastructure.
