With Reno8 5G, OPPO cements position in Kenya’s 5G mobile device market segment

Mobile device and lifestyle brand OPPO made its debut in Kenya’s 5G mobile device segment with the Reno6 5G in September 2021. With the introduction of Reno6 5G, OPPO became one of the pioneer entrants in the yet uncharted 5G device segment, with the launch coming at a time when the country’s only 5G network by Safaricom was still undergoing its trial phase.

After the Reno6 5G in 2021, OPPO made a second leap of faith in Kenya’s 5G device market in April this year when it unveiled the two models in the Reno 7 series, featuring the Reno7 (4G) and the flagship Reno7 5G.

In June this year, the brand relentlessly continued its foray into the country’s 5G mobile device market when it launched the OPPO FindX, targeting the premium segment of the user base.

And towards the end of October, just before we come to the close of 2022, OPPO again decided come out to remind us that it’s not yet done as relates to the 5G mobile device design and development, unveiling the Reno8 5G in the local market.

The launch of the Reno8 series – which, just like the Reno7 series, also featured two models in the Reno8 (4G) and the Reno8 5G – was done at a crucial time and coincided with a number of key events and developments.

Most noteworthy is the fact that the introduction of the Reno8 5G came in October, the same month during which Safaricom announced the commercial launch of its 5G network following months of operating the network on a trial basis.

Second is that OPPO has opted to unveil its latest 5G flagship in the market when other vendors are also doing the same, meaning that prospective buyers can visit the various retail shops, sample the 5G devices on offer then make their purchase decisions based on their observations and personal budgets. And this is good for the consumer.

But what’s the correlation between the Reno8 5G (which has been available on pre-order on Kilimall since October 26, 2022) and Kenya’s 5G network? In other words what benefits come with owning the Reno8 5G as relates to utilizing the advanced connectivity capacities presented by the 5G network?

Here’s why.

Like other models in the Reno series, the OPPO Reno8 5G is big on photography and comes with impeccable photography and videography features and capabilities. The Reno8 5G comes fitted with Dual Sony Flagship Sensors – with the IMX709 for the front camera and the IMX766 for the rear camera.

The Sony IMX709 is an advanced RGBW 32 MP camera sensor customized by OPPO to ensure a 60% increase in light intake and a 35% improvement in noise reduction when compared with traditional RGGB sensors. Combined with OPPO’s self-designed Quadra Binning algorithm, every selfie taken using the Reno8 5G looks dynamically bright and sharp regardless of lowlight or backlight scenes.

When it comes to videography, the Dual Sony Flagship Sensors support the underlying DOL-HDR technology at the hardware level, thereby increasing video dynamic range by 4x to that of the conventional HDR algorithm.

Also referred to as the ‘Portrait Expert,’ the OPPO Reno8 5G is fitted with a series of portrait features driven by leading AI technologies. These include:

  • Ultra Night Video algorithm enhances the image quality, color expression, and facial performance in lowlight environments, delivering sharp and bright night portrait videos. It is automatically enabled for nighttime shooting.
  • Ultra HDR Video mode prevents bright parts from over-exposure and enriches dark parts with subtle details, thereby producing natural portrait videos with vivid colors. It is automatically enabled in scenes with a large lighting ratio.
  • Night Portrait leverages the industry-leading Turbo RAW algorithm to perform AI noise reduction in the RAW domain, delivering clear and pure portrait images.

The camera features embedded in the Reno8 5G enable the user, an ardent OPPO Portrait Expert Fan, to derive maximum benefit while using the device in locations with 5G coverage.

After you’ve taken photos or recorded your video clips, you can then share and relive such exceptional experiences with loved ones and colleagues by instantly sending them the files using the 5G network which delivers higher multi-Gbps peak data speeds.

Again, it is important to remember that the 5G network, which can be accessed using the OPPO Reno8 5G, has ultra-low latency, is more reliable and delivers a better and uniform user experience to multiple users.

And compared to 4G, 5G – which can be accessed using the OPPO Reno8 5G smartphone, has the potential to provide up to 20 times faster data speeds and carry a massive amount of data for many simultaneous users. This allows users in high density areas to experience even faster speeds and low latency.
