Samsung unveiled its latest models in the high-end Galaxy range – featuring foldable models – in August this year. The latest smartphone models from Samsung make up the Galaxy z range – that is Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4.
Announced in the local market during the second week of August, both the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4 feature customizable form factors, tailored experiences, and advanced performance.
For this post however, we’ll focus on the Galaxy Z Fold 4. First, because it’s the more premium of the two Galaxy Z models, and two, because we have had a review unit on our hands to try out for over 2 weeks now. So here goes…

We have now looked at the specs, and also had time to use and utilise the device to better understand its unique features and functionalities.
Design and Durability
In as far as what a user would desire and require in a new smartphone is concerned, the Galaxy Z Fold4 ticks all the boxes, comfortably. We can even state here that the device surpasses the user’s prior expectations in certain aspects.
When you consider the design of the Galaxy Z Fold4 in the growing foldable device portfolio, the features it packs and overall experience it presents to the user after acquisition, then this latest flagship from the Galaxy for sure puts the Samsung brand at the highest peak.
The Galaxy ZFold4 comes encased in Armour Aluminium frames and hinge cover with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the Cover Screen and rear glass, all in effort to ensure that the device is tough and durable during use. To ensure further durability and protect against damage from external elements, the device is equipped with IPX8 water resistance capability, meaning that it can be safely be submerged in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes.
Productivity features and Capability
Together with its amazingly compact design, the Galaxy Z Fold4 obviously comes fitted with incredible cameras to ensure that the user has the best experience while taking photos or recording videos for future personal memories.
But away from the design, let’s be honest and admit here that no one can fork over Kshs 250,000 to buy a smartphone, all because of its fantastic camera and the unrivalled photography features and functionalities embedded within. That would be stretching it unreasonably.
Of course what the Galaxy Z Fold4 offers users in terms of aesthetics and photography is important. However, as a user, this may not be main reason for (me personally) to purchase and own the top-of-class device. Far from it.
For me, over and above the design and photography, the Galaxy Z Fold4 offers much more. The phone comes in handy for those keen to perform their professional duties (including filing reports, checking and replying to emails, or creating and publishing content like we do here) using a device that’s more portable than a laptop or mobile tablet.
This is because with the Galaxy Z Fold4, one can comfortably multitask, a feature that is further boosted by the device’s relatively larger screen display.
Though neither a PC not tablet, the Taskbar in the Galaxy Z provides a layout similar to the format in the PC, thereby enabling the user to easily access their most used and recent apps. The Swipe Gestures also make multitasking more spontaneous as one can instantly switch full-screen apps to pop-up windows or split the screen in half for more options to multitask.
And for content creators, the Galaxy Z Fold4 is ideal for taking stills photos and videos, regardless of the environment, whether day or night. This is enabled with the phone’s advanced 50MP wide lens and 30x Space Zoom lens. Again, the phone offers the user a range variety of camera modes, including the larger Zoom map activated on Capture View Mode, Dual Preview, and Rear Cam Selfie which are customised to utilise the device’s unique design for better capturing flexibility and shooting options.
Gaming and Entertainment
The Galaxy Z Fold4, with its 7.6-inch Main Display with a brighter screen, a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and an unobtrusive Under Display Camera (UDC) featuring a new scatter-type sub-pixel arrangement, one is sure to get an even better experience while engaging with their content, be it videos or photos.
Gamers can also look forward to getting the Galaxy Z Fold4 on their hands for an incredible experience, thanks to the smartphone’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform and 5G capability.
