Idea Hive taps Muruiki Murunge as MD as it expands operations into East Africa




Idea Hive, a performance marketing agency, has made its launch into the East African market in a bid to provide data-driven technology to create unique, insightful brand strategies and marketing campaigns for clients.

Yaw Dwomoh, the Idea Hive CEO, said the firm is taking advantage of the huge opportunity the African market has to offer.

“Today we mark a major milestone in our regional expansion strategy. The East African Operations will be led by newly appointed Managing Director, Muriuki Murunge, a social intelligence marketer and brand communications expert.

“I am very excited to lead Idea Hive in this market, mainly because I understand the dynamics marketers are facing in an evolving and competitive industry, that requires unique tailor-made solutions to satisfy our customer’s needs”, said Murunge.

Murunge joins Idea Hive from Ogilvy PR where he served for almost 6 years as the Social Media Manager and Influencer Support – (Sustainable Business Practices Narrator). At Ogilvy, he worked on various accounts including Total Kenya, Kenya Airways, Philips East Africa, Ghana & Nigeria, Carrefour Supermarkets, Airtel Group , World Wide Fund, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as Rwandair.

As the Social Media Manager at Ogilvy PR, Murunge key responsibilities were: leading long term social communication planning and social blueprint for brands, creating sustainable digital communication content and Eco campaigns to amplify the sustainability angle for brands to engage and emotionally connect with Kenyans to fight climate change and advance companies’ online brand image, and being responsible for the formulation of interactive communication content and for clients based on established content pillars and guiding their sustainability program communication flow. He was also in charge of Influencer Management for brands, supporting in building influencer strategies and brand positioning for key brands and ensuring marketing content and digital campaign implementation.

Prior to Ogilvy PR, Murunge was part of MultiChoice Kenya’s Customer Service and Digital Experience team, and spent almost 3 years at the payTV service provider.

Over the last seven years, Idea Hive has carved out a niche for itself in the competitive advertising industry. The new business reconfiguration will put the company on a more competitive and sustainable growth path, led by a strong team.
