It is weeks since the Tecno Spark 10 hit the market. The latest model in the Spark series has come almost 6 months after the launch of its predecessor, the Tecno Spark 9 series, targeting to move a sizeable number of units in the highly competitive and vibrant budget smartphone segment.
Having had the Tecno Spark 10 for over a week now, let us also give our opinion on the device as regards its various aspects and key selling points.
Design and Feel
On unboxing and powering on the device, the Tecno Spark feels comfortable and firm on the palm as it has a good grip. The grip gets even better once the phone is enclosed within its colourless cover.
The review unit we have is the Meta Blue variant and gives out a glowing, almost reflective, and shiny finish when held against bright light. This, combined with main camera’s ringed formation at the top coupled with the ‘TECNO SPARK’ logo imprinted at the bottom left corner, gives the overall design a very premium look and feel.
The device is fitted with a 6.6-inch HD screen display with 90HZ high refresh rate, enabling the user to get clear and vibrant images and video clips. On the top bezel of the phone is the earpiece and a notch which partially encloses the selfie camera. And that’s basically it on the front screen.
On the side of the Tecno Spark 10 is where the majority of the user enhancements and buttons are located. On the side towards the right we have the Volume (up and down) buttons followed below by the side-mounted Fingerprint scanner (which also doubles up as the power on and off button). When pressed together with the Volume down button, the Fingerprint button also takes screen shots.
On the side of the device, towards the bottom, we have the mouthpiece, the Type-C charging (and data transfer) port followed by the standard jack pin slot to your left in a clockwise direction.
Camera and photography
Still on the design of the Tecno Spark 10, and moving now to the rear of the device, we have the 50MP Ultra Clear camera while the front screen is fitted with an 8MP glowing selfie camera with dual flash capability.
The cameras and the associated features and functionalities are key considering that the Spark 10 is targeted at Gen Z age group, a segment which is very attracted to the outdoors, documenting their activities while outdoors and later sharing those very activities and moments with their colleagues, be they still images or video clips. Still on videos, the camera has a 1080-pixel video output resolution which enables you to record video clips in their best possible quality with the background blurring functionality coming in handy when you want all the frames captured in their most brilliant form.
And when taking portraits, the camera has the AI feature which separates the main object from the background of the photo, thereby enabling the user to have more targeted beautification options to choose from while the background blurring feature ensures that the main object remains the item of focus.
Internal storage and Memory
The Tecno Spark runs on Android 13 operating system powered by an Octa-core processor, meaning that as the user, you’re assured of the best possible speeds no matter the number of activities running on the device and taking up its internal resources. Again, the fact that the device has 8GB of RAM (which is expandable to 16GB via virtual memory) should offer further assurance to users in as far as speed and seamless running of apps and internal functions of the phone is concerned.
When it comes to storage capacity, the Tecno Spark 10 gives you 128GB, respectable size (and the industry standard for this particular segment) which will definitely take you a long way before you explore other additional capacity no matter you storage capacity needs.
Battery and overall perfomance
Considering its targeted customer segment and their mobile device use habits and lifestyles, the 5000mAh battery built-in in the Tecno Spark 10 is ideal and perfect. Even with long periods of use, the 5000mAh battery will ensure that the user is covered and in contact with those who matter to them.
In those unfortunate circumstances where the battery runs out of charge, the user can plug in the 18W fast charger and be back online within minutes. And in those instances where one is unsure of getting an available location to charge the device, it is then advisable to utilise the in-built power optimization functionality that when activated enhances the overall battery life performance by 30%, thereby ensuring that one single charge takes you for longer before running out.

Conclusion
The competition in the budget device segment is cutthroat, with various brands (we won’t mention rival brand names here) releasing tens of models into the market. But even in the face of this ruthless competition for customers, Tenco Mobile has not shied away but has instead decided to come out and throw itself into the ring and unleash the Tecno Spark 10 series in this same segment. What is left now is for the market and customers – whether existing or potential – to visit the brand’s retail and dealer outlets, try out the latest Tecno Spark model then vote with their cash.
The economy may not be looking good for many people you may talk to. Meaning that your budget when it comes to acquiring a new smartphone can comfortably get you a device in the budget smartphone segment without breaking your bank. But having a relatively low budget for a phone should not be synonymous with inferior features and specs – for here’s the Tecno Spark 10.
