The CAMON 20 series from TECNO has been in the market for over 2 weeks now. Launched in the local market in mid-May, the CAMON 20 series is another successful effort by TECNO in pushing the margins of creative design and innovation both for its brands as well as the lifestyle devices industry as a whole.
For a series with four models – that is the standard CAMON 20; the CAMON 20 Pro 4G (which we’re reviewing here with this post); the CAMON 20 Pro 5G; and the CAMON 20 Premier 5G – it’s only possible and fair to appreciate the creative effort placed on each variant in the lineup by trying out the device(s). We did this with the CAMON 20 Pro (4G) and below is our experience…
Design and Build
Having mentioned earlier that TECNO’s design team was out to push their creative boundaries with the latest models in the CAMON 20 series, this becomes even more evident when you get hold of the CAMON 20 Pro (4G) variant.
Weighing 182grams, the CAMON 20 Pro (4G) comes in a new irregular but stylish design inspired by postmodern architecture, referred to by TECNO as the ‘CAMON PUZZLE design’.
Measuring 163.4mm in height, 76.7mm in width, and 8.2mm in thickness, the device has 6.67 inches by 107.4 cm2 AMOLED screen, (translating to a screen-to-body ratio of about 85.7%) with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1080×2400 pixels Always-on Display resolution.
In terms of privacy and security, the CAMON 20 Pro (4G) features an onscreen Fingerprint scanner.
On the right are the Volume Up and Down buttons, and the Power off and Restart button. At the bottom of the body, we have the Mouthpiece, the Type-C port for charging and data transfer, and the standard jack pin slot. The dual SIM card tray is situated on the left towards the top, while the Earpiece is located at the top.
Completing the design of the smartphone at the back is the 64MP main camera system, with 2MP (Bokeh); AI camera and Quad Flash (Ring-Flash).
Below the camera, the words ‘TECNO CAMON’ are inscribed in a vertical format, appearing to the viewer whenever the device is held at an angle against light.
With its boxed edges and overall dimensions, the TECNO Camon 20 Pro (4G) fits rather perfectly when held on the palm. It feels even better when it is nestled within the well-crafted translucent rigid case bundled together with the device in the box as the case gives the user an improved grip and hold of the phone while also ensuring that it’s better protected in case it accidently falls off to the ground when held.
Camera and photography
The CAMON series has always been known for delivering beyond expectations to consumers when it comes to photography and battery life, and the CAMON 20 Pro (4G) is no exception. In keeping with this time-honored tradition, the device comes with a 64MP main camera system, with 2MP (Bokeh); AI camera and Quad Flash (Ring-Flash).
The camera also comes fitted with a RGBW sensor, the latest innovation in smartphone camera design which brings closer to professional cameras in terms of features and functionality, particularly when shooting in light sensitive locations and low-light environments.
The device’s 32MP front camera with Dual Flash capability enables the user to have better controls when taking selfies or recording videos.
Display screen
As already indicated, the CAMON 20 Pro (4G) comes fitted with a 6.67-inches by 107.4cm2 AMOLED screen, (translating to a screen-to-body ratio of about 85.7%). It further has a 120Hz refresh rate and 1080×2400 pixels resolution.
With the huge screen display, CAMON 20 Pro (4G) users are assured of an improved experience when viewing and admiring photos, watching their favourite videos, or while gaming.
In terms of privacy and security, the CAMON 20 Pro (4G) features an onscreen Fingerprint scanner. We also have the Screen Lock which can be activated either by setting up pattern, secret PIN, or Password. There’s also the Face Unlock alternative in which the user can opt to enroll their face as one of the options to unlock the phone screen.
Battery
Like the other three models in the CAMON 20 series, the TECNO CAMON 20 Pro (4G) has a 5000mAh battery with 33W Super Charge capability. The high capacity battery enables the user to stay connected and productive via the device for most of the day without worrying about the battery going out of charge.
In instances where the device runs out of charge, one can conveniently plug it into a power source and have it recharged to its full capacity using its 33W Super Charge adapter within less than an hour. This thereby saves them valuable time which they can later use to engage in more productive activities.
