Africa has long been a breeding ground for innovation and creativity. In recent years, an increasing number of innovative companies have carved their niche, challenging traditional norms and transforming various industries. From groundbreaking technology startups to sustainable agricultural ventures, Africa has become a hotbed for disruptive entrepreneurial endeavors.
These companies are not only reshaping the business landscape but also driving socioeconomic development across the continent. Spearheading this transformative wave are visionary entrepreneurs who are harnessing the power of technology, renewable energy, and local knowledge to address pressing challenges and create sustainable solutions. As the global perception of Africa shifts from a troubled continent to a hub of innovation, it is crucial to shed light on these remarkable companies that are driving change and redefining the narrative of what Africa has to offer. One of such innovative companies driving change in the content is G Media.
Based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, G Media is a branding and advertising agency that serves both local and international customers. The firm has an animation studio that showcases African folklore in an original and authentic way. The company has built a reputation by providing digital marketing solutions to businesses across Africa.
The G Media team has worked with various clients, including Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest telecommunications provider and Africa’s largest airline respectively. Back in 2018, G Media successfully launched a campaign to promote Ethiopian Airlines’ new mobile app. The firm also collaborated with Carry1st to develop digital marketing content for African games. Adding to the company’s ambitious achievements, is their recent campaign in promoting Ethio-Telecom’s digital marketing efforts and supporting the launch of the Tele Birr Super App.
Launched in May 2021, Telebirr has become a popular mobile money solution in Ethiopia. With over 34 million users all across the country, the app eases peoples’ every-day life by bringing money transfer, utility payments as well as booking and ticketing to the tip of the finger. Only two years young, Telebirr has scored over 358 million transaction counts with a transaction value of 746 billion Ethiopian Birr. And about 2.4 million dollars were remitted via this platform internationally from 44 countries in those two years of success. Telebirr’s uncollateralized loan plan is a breakthrough in the Ethiopian financial industry as it provides microcredit services especially to those who can’t afford bank services to start or expand their businesses like the youth, women and others. The app has demonstrated that digital technology can narrow financial exclusion by opening up new pathways for financial access even in the most remote parts of a developing country.
Following the successful campaign and launch of the Tele Birr Super App, G Media has continued to work closely with Ethio Telecom to build exciting and engaging content to drive and increase user engagement on Ethio Telecom’s social media pages.
Amadou Daffe, co-founder of Gebeya Inc, and G Media’s Business Advisor, says: “Success in the digital marketing space is about more than just promotions and campaigns; it’s also about developing a strong brand identity that resonates with your target audience. Having worked with Bereket Taffese (G Media CEO), he is not only achieving fantastic things with G Media, but is also very intentional about paving the way for powerful and thriving brand strategies in the ever-changing digital landscape.”
