Bolt partners with OWIT to inspire inclusion and empower women drivers

Bolt, the on-demand mobility company in Africa partnered with the Organisation of Women in International Trade (OWIT) to host an informative event aimed at empowering women drivers on its platform. The event, aligning with the International Women’s Day theme of global women’s inclusion, fostered meaningful discussions on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and well-being.

The initiative also aligned with Bolt’s commitment to foster gender diversity and inclusion within its driver community and OWIT’s mandate to empower women to transform communities through global trade.

The event, held at Bolt’s Driver Engagement Centre, served as a platform for women drivers to engage in value-driven conversations on key topics such as business acumen, financial literacy, and personal wellness. Through interactive workshops, panel discussions, and networking sessions, participants had the opportunity to gain valuable insights, share experiences, and connect with like-minded individuals in a supportive and empowering environment.

Speaking at the event, Linda Ndungu, Bolt Country Manager said: “We are excited to partner with the Organisation of Women in International Trade to empower and uplift women drivers on our platform. At Bolt, we recognise the importance of providing our female driver partners with the tools, resources, and support they need to succeed in both their professional and personal lives. Through this event, we aim to foster a sense of community, promote dialogue on gender equality in the workplace, and celebrate the achievements of our remarkable women drivers.”

In addition to empowering women drivers, the event also promoted discussion and dialogue on what it means to be a woman in business today. By highlighting the experiences, challenges, and successes of women entrepreneurs within the ride-hailing industry, Bolt and OWIT seek to inspire and empower future generations of female leaders and change-makers.

Salome Kavindu, OWIT Kenya President said: “We are honored to be partnering with Bolt to empower the women drivers on their platform. When women are included, the society’s growth is accelerated. As we celebrate International Women’s month in 2024, it is critical for all of us to practice inclusion by including ourselves, by being kind to ourselves and thinking about ourselves too; including the future by being conscious of the biases we put for the future generation; and including the community by being the change that we want to see.”

Furthermore, the event provided a unique opportunity for Bolt to foster connections and relationships with its female driver partners and bridge the communication gap between the company and its drivers. By actively engaging with its driver community and listening to their feedback and insights, Bolt aims to strengthen its relationships with its female drivers and enhance their overall experience on the platform.

Farida Khamis, Driver representative said: “Participating in this event was truly enlightening. It’s encouraging to witness Bolt taking proactive steps to invest in our personal and professional growth, beyond just driving. As a woman driver, feeling empowered and supported means the world to me. I would also like to advocate for Bolt to empower and encourage more women to join the platform. The discussions on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and overall well-being resonated deeply, reminding me of the importance of self-care and seizing opportunities for growth. I’m grateful for the chance to be part of a community that values and uplifts its female drivers.”

As part of the event, Bolt leveraged the opportunity to capture driver testimonials and share inspiring success stories from its female driver partners. These testimonials will not only showcase the achievements and contributions of women drivers within the Bolt community but also highlight the impact of initiatives aimed at empowering and supporting women in the workforce.
