Kibo Africa has introduced the third generation of the Kibo 250R motorcycle, which aims to improve urban mobility standards. The new bike has a 250cc engine and a fuel economy of up to 33km per litre. In addition to its operating cost-effectiveness, the Kibo 250R provides a unique blend of adventure and manoeuvrability, allowing riders to explore new horizons. With its sleek design and innovative features, the motorcycle is poised to redefine urban mobility for Kenyan riders.
Speaking at the launch event, Kibo Africa CEO Huib van de Grijspaarde stated that the new bike aims to address some of the challenges faced by many of Kenya’s working youth by providing practicality and easy maintenance in the face of rising economic pressures.
“We recognise the challenges that individuals face, which push them to find new ways of relaxation and adventure. More Kenyans are turning to motorcycling as a means of transport and stress relief. With the introduction of the Kibo 250R, we hope to alleviate some of these burdens by offering an easy-to-maintain solution that does not sacrifice quality or adventure. The powerful engine offers both performance and efficiency on the road. The trellis frame chassis allows for agile handling, making it an excellent choice for navigating city traffic. At the same time, its comfortable seat makes long-distance riding more enjoyable,” said van de Grijspaarde.
Tobias Alando, Chief Operating Officer at the Kenya Association of Manufacturers, commended Kibo for using local manufacturing for some of the components on the K250R.
“We are proud of the initiative by Kibo who have localised the manufacture of at least 30 components used on their new product. This localisation helps create jobs at all levels of the value chain and supports skills transfer within the Kenyan market. Incentivizing local manufacturing will go a long way in making products manufactured in Kenya competitive in regional and global markets,” said Alando.
The K250R has been designed with the modern rider in mind offering crisp digital display that is clear in day and night conditions, bright LED lights that allow night riding, and USB ports that allow the rider to keep their devices powered even when they go for long rides.
“Kibo not only sells motorcycles but also contributes to Kenya’s economy and livelihoods. We collaborate with technicians across the country and help many businesses better serve their customers. Our impact extends beyond simply seeing our motorcycles on the road. We are proud that in the seven years we have been in the Kenyan market, we have become part of the country’s fabric,” said van de Grijspaarde.
