Bolt partners with Kenya Red Cross to unveil “Flood Assist” category with Kshs 10 million donation drive to support flood victims




Bolt, the ride-hailing platform, is partnering with the Kenya Red Cross to support flood victims across Kenya through a new category on its app, the “Flood Assist” category. Bolt’s initial contribution is Kshs 5 million, with a total goal of raising Kshs 10 million through this category. 5% of each ride’s revenue from this category will go towards supporting the victims of the recent floods.The donation targets to help those impacted by recent floods, which have caused significant loss of life, displacement, and damage to property and infrastructure.

Linda Ndungu, Country Manager for Bolt Kenya, stated: “As a mobility company rooted in the communities we serve, we believe it’s our duty to support those in need during challenging times. By unveiling the ‘Flood Assist’ category and contributing an initial Kshs 5 million, we aim to inspire and encourage Kenyans to join us in supporting flood relief efforts. This initiative allows us to use our platform to make a meaningful impact and provide much-needed assistance to those affected by the devastating floods”

The death toll in Kenya’s devastating floods has risen to at least 228, with 72 people currently reported missing and 164 have been wounded, while more than 223,000 people have been affected by the floods according to the Government of Kenya. Authorities continue to enforce the evacuation order that was issued on May 2nd. In Nairobi County alone, 163,210 residents have been evacuated from riparian areas as the government arranged alternative accommodation.

Bolt’s partnership with the Kenya Red Cross will ensure that the funds raised are used to provide relief food, relocation support and reconstruction of water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities in the affected areas. Kenya Red Cross is a the government-supported response to the flooding crisis and is well-equipped to ensure that resources reach those in need.

Bolt invites Kenyans to join this drive and contribute to the effort by using the “Flood Assist” category for their rides and reach their Kshs 10 million target. Every ride taken in this category will significantly contribute to improving the lives of those impacted by the floods.
