
In the fourth quarter of 2024, the global smartphone market remained relatively flat with 323 million units of shipment. As per Counterpoint Research’s Quarter Four 2024 Market Monitor report, the global smartphone revenues grew by 5% year-on-year (YoY), driven by premium models as consumers opted for higher-end models.
During the quarter under review, the global smartphone average selling price (ASP) increased by 2% YoY, supported by stable premium demand.
In terms of brands, Apple led the global smartphone market in the fourth quarter of 2024 with a 23% share, with Samsung taking the second spot with a 16% share. Recording its highest-ever ASP for the quarter, Apple secured 54% of global smartphone revenues in the fourth quarter of the year.
At the same time, vivo and Xiaomi recorded 20% YoY and 11% YoY revenue growth, respectively, and were the only two among the top five to show significant revenue growth.
In terms of regional shipments and brand market shares, Transsion models (Tecno, Infinix, and itel) had the lion’s share of shipments to Africa and Middle East (MEA) region. The market here was dominated by Tecno with 22% of the marketshare, followed by infinix with 8%, and itel at 5%, translating to an overall share of 35% during the quarter.
Other brands which had a good showing in terms of shipments to MEA during the fourth quarter of 2024 were Samsung at 19%, Xiaomi at 14%, followed by Apple with 9%.
In terms of brand presence, Samsung and Apple had significant marketshares in all the regions (Asia Pacific, North America, Europe, Latin America, as well in Africa and Middle East – MEA – regions.
Huawei, perhaps boosted by its strength in China, recorded an 8% share in the Asia Pacific region, as Google Pixel, TCL, and Cricket recorded noticeable but minor presence in the North American market. In Europe, both realme and Honor had 4% of overall shipments, followed by OPPO at 3%, whereas in Lartin America, Honor shipped 6% of the units as ZTE’s share of shipments stood at 4% during the fourth quarter of 2024.
